English Heritage has decided to re-think its strategy for
removing the monument from Holme-Next-The-Sea beach.
It is reported that the sit-in by Essex
Druids two days previously has brought the 'dig' to a halt for a reappraisal.
However, according to Holme Parish Council
Chairman Geoff Needham, that is not quite true. Early yesterday morning, while
tending his fishing lines, he came across two archaeologists removing another post.
"That is 23 or 24 now taken" he said. They were reluctant to talk to him.
Mr. Needham considers that there has been
indecent haste in removing Holme's monument without proper consultation and consideration.
Radio Norfolk conducted a ring-in earlier
in the week. 6,269 people said the 'henge' should not be moved - 1,420 said it
should be taken away. There were also complaints from people that not enough time
was allocated for the 'ring-in' and, for some, it was impossible to get through on the
busy lines.
