| It has been reported
that English Heritage and archaeologists have held meetings with an organisation calling
itself Friends of the Henge. We are told that the purpose of the meeting was to find a
solution which would satisfy the protestors and allow the archaeologists to continue with
the complete removal of the 'seahenge' without interruption.
One of the participating members at
the meeting has said that it was held during the afternoon on Tuesday the 22nd June
at the Lestrange Arms Hotel in Old Hunstanton. It lasted for 5 hours and agreement
was reached that would allow archaeologists to continue the 'dig' unhampered by the Druids
and associated protestors. It seems the authorities have promised to replace the
'seahenge' with fresh timbers to allow continual use of this newly discovered artefact's
area as a 'sacred' site.
Holme-Next-The-Sea village community
was not informed of this meeting and, therefore, could not participate in the discussion
or agreement. It is not known whether the land-owner was involved.
Norfolk Archaeology is to continue
the excavation next week when, presumably, they will continue with the operation that was
disrupted by the Druids - which is to lift out the central root.
