Known locally
as

'Applehenge'

Television's Channel Four Time Team have built a replica Seahenge in the corner of an apple orchard at Thornham close to the village of Holme-Next-The-Sea.

This operation, designed for a production showing how the wooden circle might have been constructed 4000 years ago, and to be presented on Channel Four over the Christmas holiday,  was carried out with 'secrecy' and no one was allowed to approach the site or, in fact, even supposed know where it was.

Said to have used original tools and methods of building, the Team took a weekend to complete the reconstruction.

These photographs were taken after the Team had left and with the permission of the orchard attendant.

There is no further news from Flag Fen regarding the Assessment, Investigation and Preservation (see last report) but a Forum of experts and local people has been set up to discuss the long term future of the Seahenge - the real one that is.  Chairman of Holme Parish Council, Geoff Needham,  tells me that this Forum has yet to meet.

I hear there are people who would like henge mark ll to also survive but planning permission for its permanent retention is unlikely to be granted.  It will remain in the apple orchard for a month.
