Chairman's Announcements

The Club has made significant progress this year in several different ways.  As Chairman I would like to start by thanking all those, both on and off the Committee, who have unselfishly contributed to make this possible.  I have no doubt that the foundations we have laid this last year will be critical to the future expansion and development of this Club.

The Committee is now very well balanced, with a wide range of expertise and professional skills, from which the Club is unquestionably benefiting.   We are also financially stronger, better equipped and more secure than ever before.

Most of our established CA players, at all handicap levels, continued to improve this season : special congratulations to those who won CA Tournaments, both here and at other Clubs.  As an 'Association' Club we have considerable strength in depth and are able to field very competitive Club Teams.   Attendance on Club days (Association) has, however, continued to be rather variable especially on Saturdays.  This year, all the Tournaments and Club Fixtures ran very smoothly and successfully.  Thank you to all those who gave up their time to help.

Recruitment has shown dramatic improvement this year, due mainly to the expansion and development of Golf or Social Croquet on Monday : with over twenty members attending some weeks.  The most encouraging aspect of this is that the majority are local people who all attend regularly.  Their enthusiasm, social attributes and willingness to help is already impacting on the Club, and will no doubt be a key factor in the future.  I would like to extend a very special thank you to all the new members and to the established ones who have joined in regularly and encouraged them this year.  While some may wish to progress and play Association, it is likely that the Golf Croquet section will continue to attract more members, develop in its own way and become an increasingly important part of the Club.  The best way to get to know new members is to come land join in.  Everybody is made welcome.

This year has proved that we can continue to develop as a Regional and National centre for Association Croquet and still meet our obligations as an important social facility for local people to enjoy and use.
