Two reports surfaced this week concerning Holme Beach. The first is
the long awaited initial assessment of the ancient timbers known as Seahenge released this
week by the Norfolk Museums & Archaeology Service.
(see
Assessment)
The second is a release of information regarding more mysterious
timbers on the beach, information that has been common knowledge among the North West
Norfok coastal communities for a very long time. The fact that there was another
upturned root within 100 yards of Seahenge during the excavation of 1999 is a source of
amusement among local people. It was never even noticed! While keeping
the Norfolk Museums and Archaeology Service informed, local people were not prepared to
give information to anyone else. Why and how this information has now come to be released
is also a mystery.
