Past glories of Norfolk singers
The Florence Shield for Male Voice Choirs
1935-39
Bernard Lock of Brancaster is
keen to learn more about the history of The Florence Shield for Male Voice Choirs,
pictured below, which was a trophy at the Norfolk Musical Competition Festival in the
1930s, and about the choirs of Heacham, Upton and Brancaster, which won the
shield in the years noted by the inscriptions. The oak and silver shield was
brought to the attention of Mr Lock by Mr Geoff Mellors, of Wells, who then lent it to the
Brancaster Midsummer Music Festival for display at its concerts last year.
The achievements of
those Norfolk singers ought to be commemorated, and it is hoped that more can be
discovered about the events and the participants before everything slips away into the
forgotten past. Any names of choir members and memories of the choir's activities would be very
helpful, and especially any photographs of those involvedwhich would be
copied and promptly and gratefully returned.
